Simplifying Prayer

French sculptor, August Rodin, who is known for The Thinker and the portrayal of John the Baptist, is quoted as saying, “The more simple we are, the more complete we become.” This is highlighted today in the message which speaks to prayers. There is an avoidance of prayer by many because many feel they don’t know how to pray. As Kundtz writes, “Prayer is an attitude of the heart. It can be expressed in myriad ways. There is no limit. There are no boundaries. We must not worry at all about the details of prayer, but only the essence of connecting.” Simply put, prayer is for you, not God. Honestly, there is not way to do it other than speaking what comes to your mind and heart. Kundtz concludes his thoughts with saying, “The simpler the prayer, the more complete.”

Matthew 6:6-7gives us a requirement that is in alignment with today’s discussion. It speaks to the how and not the what to pray and reads, “But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” May we always keep it simple and only ask of what we think and feel.

FMBC Weekly Reading: Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭16‬-‭26‬

With God, all things are possible

“Then someone came to him and said, ‘Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?’ And he said to him, ‘Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.’ He said to him, ‘Which ones?’ And Jesus said, ‘You shall not murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother; also, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ The young man said to him, ‘I have kept all these; what do I still lack?’ Jesus said to him, ‘If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’ When the young man heard this word, he went away grieving, for he had many possessions. Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.’ When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astounded and said, ‘Then who can be saved?’ But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘For mortals it is impossible, but for God all things are possible.’”

This is an important lesson for us in the life to not depend on people and things, for all are of this mortal life and will pass away. But our Father, who art in heaven, is the One who we can call on, depend on, obey, and is capable of saving us.

Youversion Verse of the Day:Romans 12:21

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Each time I read this message, I always think to kill others with kindness to be obedient to God.
