Still Life
“Still Life” is desired by so many of us because of the hustle and bustle of both personal and professional life. In today’s message, columnist and theologian Eileen Smith was hoping for some snow. He reason for snow as written, “Snow is spread out like an endless blanket... wrapping us all in the welcome gift of 'Just Stop.’ Just stop rushing. Just stop racing. Just stop running from one thing to another. Slow down. Let go. Breathe. And Just Stop. Just Be. Be still. Be quiet. Be. What represents snow for you? What interruption, individual, or group can assist you with pausing and enjoying the moment, the people, the opportunity to just be? Don’t deny it; embrace it.
This message made me think of Jesus stilling the storm. In Mark 4:39 followers of Jesus were fearful of the storm that was brewing while He slept. “He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm.” In this same manner we can take our busyness to the Lord, and He will cause the disruptions to be paused or eliminated. Distractions can come for a reason. Are you taking the signs that you need to stop, reset, and rest?
FMBC Weekly Reading: Jeremiah 6: 2, 13-17
“I have likened daughter Zion to the loveliest pasture. For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for unjust gain; and from prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely. They have treated the wound of my people carelessly, saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace. They acted shamefully, they committed abomination; yet they were not ashamed, they did not know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; at the time that I punish them, they shall be overthrown, says the Lord. Thus says the Lord: Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way lies; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ Also I raised up sentinels for you: “Give heed to the sound of the trumpet!” But they said, ‘We will not give heed.’”
Our Father provided wisdom and guidance; however, we make our own choice which come with consequences—be them good or bad. May we choose to obey and follow where He leads us.
Youversion Verse of the Day: Isaiah 26:3
Those of steadfast mind you keep in peace— in peace because they trust in you.
There is really nothing that should ever disrupt us from being in peace, because all of those situations we can always turn over to Thee.
