Uncommon Hours
Kundtz’s message today begins with a quote by Henry David Thoreau, which speaks about success during uncommon hours. He asks, “What are those uncommon hours?”, and then he goes on to share, “…hours you will dream of possibilities, create wondrous realities, ponder the thorny problems of life, and imagine what only you can imagine!” There are times in our lives where we get in a space and in a groove with an energy to produce and create. Those hours, many times, come to me at an uncommon hour, literally. Many times I am awaken early in the morning, and wonder why I am awake. Then I think to myself, “Is there something that I must get off my mind?” The uncommon hours are the times that I was able to write and birth a book. In the uncommon hours, some of the best ideas for work have arisen, and answers to how I must handle people and situations become clear.
Isaiah 55:8-9 reads, “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.’” God works through us in only the way He can. He will give us vision, words, power, and endurance that’s uncommon but unusually powerful for us to accomplish what He has placed in us that we could not otherwise tap into. Pay attention to the uncommon hours, not ignoring or questioning them, but embracing and running with them.
FMBC Weekly Reading: Genesis 1:26-28
Initially God said of humans, we were very good; what happened?
“Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.’ So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.’”
God created us in His image as humankind and he created other living things. May we remember that He has charged us to have dominion over “things”, and not humankind. There is only One who has dominion, power, and authority over you and me.
Youversion Verse of the Day: Jonah 1:17
But the Lord provided a large fish to swallow up Jonah; and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
God will protect us in unexplainable ways.
