His direction is the best way for our lives
Reality Check
A quote from English novelist, George Eliot, reads “It will never rain roses: When we want to have more roses we must plant more trees.” After reading that this morning I got a “Reality Check”, which is the title of today’s one-minute retreat from Kundtz. George Eliot is actually the pen name of a woman named Mary Ann Evans. But back to her quote, Kundtz points out “As Eliot says, if you want roses, plant trees. What doing nothing can do is help you know what you really want-is it roses, or gladiolas, or redwoods, or none of those?—so that you don't end up with a beautiful garden of what you don't want.” I interpret this as it is important to take time out for your thoughts and what you want and need out of life, and not just take whatever comes.
There are two verses from Psalms that come to mind. Psalms 20:4 says, “May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed”, and Psalms 37:4 follows, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” It is important for us to take time to sit in quiet contemplation and spend time with our Father. Though He already knows our thoughts it is important for us to make them known to Him, and then trust in His will to provide what He knows is best for us. Do ever recall a time that God didn’t provide you with what you asked or something even better than you could imagine?
FMBC Weekly Reading: Ezekiel 2:1-8
“‘Stand up, son of man,’said the voice. ‘I want to speak with you.’ The Spirit came into me as he spoke, and he set me on my feet. I listened carefully to his words. ‘Son of man,’ he said, ‘I am sending you to the nation of Israel, a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me. They and their ancestors have been rebelling against me to this very day. They are a stubborn and hard-hearted people. But I am sending you to say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says!’ And whether they listen or refuse to listen—for remember, they are rebels—at least they will know they have had a prophet among them. ‘Son of man, do not fear them or their words. Don’t be afraid even though their threats surround you like nettles and briers and stinging scorpions. Do not be dismayed by their dark scowls, even though they are rebels. You must give them my messages whether they listen or not. But they won’t listen, for they are completely rebellious! Son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not join them in their rebellion. Open your mouth, and eat what I give you.’”
When God sends us to share in His word or do what He has called us to do, let us never grow afraid of them, but only work to abide by His directions for our purpose to be obedient and reap what He has for us.
