A Hard Question

A hard question by Bill McKibben was posed this morning that asks, “How much is enough?” As the writer shared this morning, it seems that the nation and even individual and organizations are always focused on growth, and things bigger and better. The author wraps up be saying he believes he has a lot of company, saying, “What I want is not only to say, ‘That's enough!" but to believe it so deeply that I put it into practice, or better, I make it part of my practice.” When is enough enough? Envy and greed cause the need and desire for more.

One thing we can agree upon, though, is that if God doesn’t do anything else for us, He’s already done enough. Mark 10:27-30 reads, “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘There are some things that people cannot do, but God can do anything.’ Peter replied, ‘Remember, we left everything to be your followers!’ Jesus told him: ‘You can be sure that anyone who gives up home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or land for me and for the good news will be rewarded. In this world they will be given 100 times as many houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and pieces of land, though they will also be mistreated. And in the world to come, they will have eternal life.’ To live abundantly and blessed, only one thing is required: follow Him.

I am the vine, and you are the branches. If you stay joined to me, and I stay joined to you, then you will produce lots of fruit. But you cannot do anything without me.

Let us never break away from Him who has served as our seed of life and greater as our foundation and rock that never wavers, for in Him we have everything we need to stand and succeed in this life.
